The White Privilege Quiz

Hey guys,

We recently did the white privilege quiz, and I found it to be very interesting exercise in meta cognitive thinking. I never really thought about most of the things the quiz brought up. There was a few things running through my mind while I was taking it though, one of them stands out the most: Is this quiz an accurate representation of white privilege?

For the record, I got a 181/250, a score that seems to be in the upper-middle class of privilege. The thing is though, I don't view myself as white. I don't look white, my hair doesn't look white, I don't really identify with the label white, yet I seemingly got a high score. Was this because of the area I live in? Is this because my mom is half white and looks white, yet I seemingly didn't inherit the white skin from her? Was this because I never really found myself a victim of overt racism here in the bay area?

What do you guys think? Personally, I think this quiz does seem to measure white privilege to an extent, but it really has a lot to do with the area you live in and what you've experienced in life. We live in a very multicultural and relatively accepting area, and, in my opinion, that's why I got a seemingly high score. What do you guys think? What was your score? I'm very interested in hearing your guy's opinions on this.

  1. I identify as white and I got a high score. However, I did not get the highest score possible and I think that is due to the area that we live in. For example, the question, if you asked to speak to a manager or the person in charge you would be met with someone of the same race. Probably in some areas this would be more true than others. So, I agree, I think the area you live in could affect how you score to some extent but some things are true regardless of where and with who you live.

  2. I same identify as white,I got a high score myself. I agree with Jamie, that it has to do with the location in which we live. But I think we also have to take into consideration when these questions where made that we took the quiz on. It was during a slightly different time so things could vary greatly. But I believe that they do all relate to the location in which you live and have grown up in.
