The girl in red stood out to Schindler while he watched the murders of the Jewish Pols in the ghettos. She wondered aimlessly while people were being shot, she was innocent, just like all children, and just like all the Jewish Pols that were killed. I think she represents the innocence of the Jewish Pols as well as everyone else that was killed in the Holocaust. What do you think this symbolism means? Are there are other examples of symbolism in the movie?
This is very interesting, I agree with what you believe the girl symbolizes. But I also feel as if she is a sign of hope for those that did make it. A sign of strength that many who suffered through the Holocaust needed to survive. The color red could have played a role as well. Representing the blood on the hands of the Germans. And how those who were innocent once shed blood or died for being different.
ReplyDeleteI think it represents how people can all become faces in the crowd until one isn't. Every single one of those people was a daughter, a son, mother or father. Everyone mattered to someone. Schindler had looked at them as a group but then just one stood out to him. That way, when she was killed, it was much more personal whereas before it had just been another death to him.
