Cam Newton Controversial Press Conference

Image result for cam newton interviewRecently, Cam Newton had a press conference after a game where he spoke down on a female reporter. For those who do not know, Cam Newton is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, and was being asked questions after his win against the New England Patriots on Sunday. When a news reporter/ journalist asked Newton about the different plays and defenses he was seeing on the field, Cam smiled and laughed and said "I just find it funny to hear a female talk about routes". Almost immediately, Cam received tons of backlash from fans and sponsors, losing his sponsor with Dannon Yogurt. The reporter tweeted after the fact, stating "I don't think it is funny to talk about routes. I think it's my job" showing how Newton's comments were taken very offensively and personally, as she should have. Cam Newton did in fact speak to the reporter after the conference, but according to her, he did not apologize, describing the confrontation as "worse". However, this was not the first time Cam Newton has spoken down on women in the matter of football, calling reporters "sweetheart" and kind of brushing off their questions as if a child were asking them. Earlier today, he uploaded a video on his social media apologizing for his comments and apologized anybody who took offense to what he said. Newton has been known to have somewhat of a maturity issue inside and outside of the game, but was this one too far? Although he does not violate any of the league's rules or codes of conduct, do you guys think that his misogynistic comments should earn him a fine, or is the loss of sponsorship and fans enough?

  1. I do agree that this was un called for and not okay. However, it is still his right to say what he wants as long as it doesn't harm others or call out for the harm of others due to the 1st amendment

  2. This was a clear example of an athlete not realizing the power that he carries with his words. I believe this was a humbling experience for him and the loss of sponsorship was a wake up call for him, and hopefully it is enough to prevent him from doing things like this in the future.
