The Bad Samaritan
In class we recently viewed "The Bad Samaritan" documentary . We discussed the issue of being a bystander and some of the consequences it could have.18 year old Jeremy Strohmeyer raped and murdered 7 year old Sherrice Iverson in a women's restroom, while his best friend David Cash stood by and watched the assault. The part many people including myself are wondering is How could someone just stand and watch his friend take away an innocent child's life?.In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Cash states," I'm not going to get upset over somebody else's life..... I'm not going to lose sleep over somebody else's problem." Just by reading that statement it leaves me shocked. It makes me think there's really something not right about him."It's somebody else's problem" because he chose to do nothing. He was only thinking about his own future and losing his best friend, but was it worth it?. He got into Berkeley, but it came with more than just getting his education. Being shamed everyday by those both on and off campus. He will have to live everyday knowing he had a part in helping his friend take away a little girls future and what he could have done to save her.
