YouTube Shooting

On April 3rd, a 39-year old woman, Nasim Aghdam, arrived to the YouTube headquarters and shot 3 people, then turned the gun on herself. The 3 people who were shot were only wounded and are not in fatal condition, one who hurt their ankle while escaping, and the woman who shot up the company killed herself. Although it is not official, it seems as if her motives was that YouTube had restricted her from making videos on the platform. She had 4 different channels, one in English, one in Turkish, one in Farsi, and one more talking about vegan lifestyle. She is accusing the platform from not allowing her to get views and make money from her videos. Although her bizarre videos were told to have violated many of YouTube policies, her family said that she "hated" the company and when she went missing for two days, they were worried that she was headed to YouTube, which was a correct assumption. They called the police on her but the police struggled to find her before the shooting. Although YouTube kept deleting her account/videos, do you think she really violated their policies and is it possible that her strange music video parodies and vegan fitness videos could have made money?

  1. This is interesting, and to answer your question probably not and if her videos were deleted they must have been pretty bad especially if her videos went against youtube policy so much so that they had to delete her channels.

  2. I dont see why this women went to this extent. There are probably many other YouTube'rs going through this but you dont see them shooting up the headquarters. YouTube clearly states their policies. But at the same time i dont see why YouTube had to delete all her channels adn vidoes. I dont see why her videos wouldnt make money. As long as she made her videos to fallow the policies there wouldnt have been issues.

  3. Many well known you tuber's get their videos taken down and demonetized meaning they cant make money from them and they dont got around shooting people or themselves. I think this woman thought that becoming a well youtuber is super easy and quick. If her channel was taken down she was violating youtubes policies more than once. Once you violate youtubes policies 3 times your channel gets taken down. I don't think her videos would make so much money because music parodies are a trend of the past and many channels talking about lifestyle only have a few subscribers.

  4. This woman seemed like she probably had mental issues because there a many big time Youtubers who have their accounts blacklisted and can post a video that violates zero guidelines and will still get demonetized the second that it is published. There is no reason this woman should have felt the need to shoot up the headquarters and definitely no reason to think that they would all of the sudden start to monetize her videos after the incident. Even if she did violate their policies, if it was unjust, too bad it is their policies that you have to abide by if you use their platform.

  6. I actually heard about this when I was down the street from this youtube office. Like TJ said, I believe that the girl more than likely had mental issues and that she should have know that she was violating youtube's rules and that after multiple videos being deleted she should have realized that she was doing something wrong. I know that I have seen youtube take down videos that isn't helping them make money because videos are getting down likes. That being said, I believe that youtube could deleted her channels but could delete the certain videos that weren't along the lines of their policies. Most people know the polices of their website and when you are about to upload a video I am pretty sure that they are posted right there. The other people that are getting their videos taken down aren't going to the headquarters and shooting it up because of a video. I think the lady went a little overboard on shooting it up and should have just talked with them about what exactly was going on.
