I remember in class how Mr. Stewart was talking about how
the court of public opinion is different than an actual court. This is
referencing how the public either views evidence differently or completely
misses out on it. I find it very interesting
to look at the Michael brown case from the perspective of an actual jury. We may
be able see what people in the court of public opinion missed out on.
I agree that the court of public opinion is really interesting and relevant in the Michael Brown case. I feel that with the rise of social media, there is a quicker and more intense reaction from the court of public opinion.
ReplyDeleteI also feel that the court of public opinion plays a pretty significant role in most big cases nowadays. Social media has definitely been used as a catalyst in spreading news and evidence quicker and on a much larger scale.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that the court of public opinion has a large role in cases that the media chooses to highlight. Overall, I don't think it has a significant impact on the actual cases themselves, rather how they are interpreted. People are given the opportunity to create their own opinion, which they believe to be the right opinion, without looking at the facts of these cases. Without the facts, the court of public opinion is able to make under educated decisions without looking at the whole picture. Overall, the court of public opinion is absolutely a real thing, but it doesn't have the impact that it wishes it did.
