Do we hold entertainment based personalities more accountable than political entities?

I stumbled upon a video where a late night show host and his guest talked about how the president is getting away with comments, tweets in specific that would have more backlash if said by a celebrity. However, I believe celebrity is too broad and think that society holds tv hosts in particular to a higher level then politicians. This is because in many times when watching these late night talk shows the people who watch them do so expect to get away from the seriousness of politics and expect a mockery of the seriousness. They will then push on to these faces their own beliefs and when anti-winged comments come about they feel personally attacked by someone they believed shared the same ideals. Whereas the people in political positions are somewhat predictable and though you will get very worked up and have full-blown arguments with and about them you will never feel betrayed by them since you don't expect them to share the same ideals with you.

  1. Doesn't it feel backward that the people we don't expect the people we vote into office to share the same ideals as us, but we expect that from public figures that are their own person and not a representation of anyone?
