Loving v. Virginia
In 1967, Mildred Loving, a black woman and Richard Loving, a white man was arrested at night at their home in Virginia. Virginia did not allow interracial marriages or any intimacy/intercourse between different races. Their marriage violated the state's anti-miscegenation statute. Although they got married in Washington D.C, they got arrested in Virginia because they returned to their home shortly after they got married. This act violated their equal protection cause. This is only one of the landmark civil rights decision of the United States. Fortunately, we have come a long way and now allow interracial marriages. We cannot change everyone's view point and sadly, people still see this as a negative thing that should not be allowed.
