In the midst of the Me Too Movement, many stories came out about leading men in Hollywood. Among the most notable was comedian and actor Aziz Ansari. The lovable Tom from the popular show Parks and Recreation became a real-life sexual predator.
A woman, whose identity remains unknown, has come out and detailed her traumatic experience with the actor. Her allegations are shocking -- he forced himself upon her and she was coerced into performing sexual acts after a date.
Sexual assault is a serious issue that is demeaning and is unacceptable under any and all circumstances. When this kind of behavior is carried out by men in power, sexual assault continues and is perpetuated.
Recently, however, things have been looking up. Women have begun to tell their stories and experiences with sexual assault and have begun to hold men accountable for their despicable actions. With the Me Too Movement and Times Up, our country has taken crucial and important steps towards justice and the empowerment of victims. These movements show our country's willingness to stand together and fight these injustices.
I love that people are able to stand up for this. Before people would not believe them and call them liars. So it is great to see that we are making process to support these people and not blaming them anymore.
