Thin white duke David Bowie's darkest character

David Bowie was one of the most influential artists of all time. Known for his glamorous style form the early 70s. Characters were nothing really new for David Bowie with Major Tom from his second album in 1969 David Bowie was slowly rising to fame. The colorful and gender-bending alter ego Ziggy Stardust alter egos were nothing new to David Bowie.   In 1975 during the promotion of his album " Young Americans", a new persona was taking a hold of Bowie.  The thin white duke a pale skeletal figure wearing a black and white suit. At this time Bowie moved to Los Angeles in 1976 and he became obsessed with the occult often burning black candles. This was at the height of his cocaine addiction in where he would eat nothing but milk and red bell peppers and smoke three packs of cigarettes a day this caused Bowie to be super pale and weigh 95 pounds hence the name " The Thin white duke". Bowie's " Station to Station " has a very dark meaning. Around this time Bowie became interested in Nazi mythology. The duke worked its way into bowies social interactions as well he even called Hitler " One of the first rock stars" and even saying " You even have to an extreme right front and come up and sweep everything up. " This was the cocaine eating away at his brain the title track of the station to station album sounds like the mix of soul and an Aryan march.  Another song " golden years" has a very dark tone to one of the lyrics " run for the shadows".  Bowie remembers nothing from recording this album. Songs like "word on a wing " are cries for help " well its safer than the strange land but I still care for myself" this lyric is Bowie trying to get out his addiction  . After the recording of this album David claims to have seen the devil in his swimming pool. Bowie himself referred to the Duke as "a nasty character indeed" although he had no public retirement like ziggy stardust the duke just simply faded away from being a demon of the past.  After  1976 Bowie moved to Berlin to get help with his cocaine addiction and even checked himself in a rehab facility.  Station was one of Bowie's best albums and even helped with his rise to fame in the US.
