While on a TMZ live show, Kanye West made the bold claim that "slavery was a choice". I feel that this could be incredibly insulting to all of the people who have had family members or ancestors who were slaves. It trivializes a problem that is near and dear to many people's hearts. Kanye was confronted by a TMZ staffer there and offered a great rebuttal to Kanye's controversial claims. After the Tmz video came out i went on Kaynes twitter and looked at his most recent tweets, Kayne West has had a couple weeks worth of really "bold" statements. I personally believe this is a social experiment or purely just for attention because he is coming out with a new album. Its a really big problem because of how many people and kids look up to him and want to follow in his footsteps and for him to come out with outrageous statements such as slavery being a choice is not only a completely incorrect statement but honestly is appalling. His platform is too big to not be cautious about what comes out of his mouth, he knows well enough after so many years in the spotlight what should be said out loud and what shouldn't be.
ReplyDeleteI also agree witn Jasmina i do think he said this to gain more attention towards himself and his music. But its crazy what people especially artists will say just because they know they're "on top". Money and fame are no excuse for dumb outrageous comments like that. I'm pretty sure he has family who know someone who has been in slavery or have experienced it themselves. I just think somethings should be left unspoken and that comment was one of them
