Volcanoes in Hawaii
After the earthquakes in Hawaii a couple of days ago, a volcano has erupted on Hawaii's Big Island. With the molten lava tearing through property and destroying homes, there is a new problem to worry about: acid rain and volcanic smog. If the winds slow down, the pollutants can settle in the air and create a massive haze called "vog" and acid droplets can start raining down on the people. Trade winds are predicted to weaken, making the threat larger as the vog accumulates overtime. If acid rain does began, it affect the citizens by causing respiratory inflammation, particulates could penetrate into the lungs and making it a lot harder to breathe. People who already have asthma could be more vulnerable to having their airways tightened. For now, it seems like there is a slight possibility that the wind will push the vog off the coast, and hopefully it does. What would you guys do in this situation?

I feel like the people who have trouble breathing, should take some precautions and maybe take a vacation.
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting and im also wondering if the vog makes it so that people aren't allowed to fly off the island?
ReplyDeleteThis is super scary from mine point of view since I do have some relatives that live on the big island very close to where this is happening and then said that right now, they are trying to do everything they can to save their home as well as themselves. To the question that you were asking about, I believe that people need to take high precautions like Tommy said and make sure that they get away and save their lives. I know that a few days ago they said that the volcano could be blowing its top off at any moment and the people that live around need to get as far away as they can since this really can be more devastating that it already is.
