Undocumented Immigration:Can they stay?

After watching and absorbing every single little detail from the documentaries we had watched.  I was reminded of what it was like to live when one of my parents were not allowed to come back to the United States.  That parent was my step-father, a hard-working, humble man that I look up to dearly.  The part of the documentary that had reminded me of those times was with the father of six kids who had his wife deported after being found out that she did not have a driver's license or proof of identification when she was taking her kids to school.  I felt the pain my mother was going through in those two years of my step-father having to look over four kids on her own.  Life had been rough in those two years, for the age I was, I didn't quite understand why he couldn't come back.  Which seg-ways into the comment that Mr.Stewart had stated during class, well, I somewhat vaguely remember if I were, to be honest.

But it had to do with the idea of whether illegal immigrants from the United States should be allowed to stay or not.  In my own personal opinion, I believe if there is someone that is willing to work and be a functioning citizen in our society that stays out of trouble and pays their dues should be allowed to stay.  Why wouldn't a country want someone who willing to work to make their lives better for themselves or their family?  Why would a country want to prevent this even though it is a fundamental aspect of our country?
