Golden State killer charged with 4 more counts of murder

     Prosecutors in Santa Barbara filed 4 more counts of murder against Joseph  James  DeAngelo liking him to all 12 murders of the golden state killer.   De Angelo who is 72 was charged with the murders of 8 people in the cold case homicides of 8 people across California throughout the 70s and 80s.  In 1979 and 1981 2 couples were shot and killed in a southern California residence.  De Angelo who was a Vietnam veteran and former policeman was caught after forensic scientist used DNA samples collected from the crime scenes and comparing them to DNA stored  Geneology websites. Police examined relatives family tree and identified as a potential candidate based on his age and his proximity to the crimes. Police obtained his DNA sample and matched it to the DNA found at the crime scene. De Angelo was also linked to a series of rapes which was the work of the " East Area Rapist ". This means De Angelos crime spree may have span to 10 countries and includes dozens of victims.   The FBI says the golden state killers began in 1976 in Sacramento with a series of rapes and burglaries.  DeAngelo once inside the residence would rape female victims and taunt them with menacing phone calls.  Police say the first murders was of a couple in 1978. The rape and murders ended in 1986.  DeAngelo is being held in the Sacramento County jail and has yet to enter a plea. With DeAngelo being tied up to the crimes police say it has brought relief to the families of the victims.
