Indian Brothel owners get life term for human trafficking

In India, 2 brothel owners get jailed for life for the trafficking, rape, and abuse of children. A man and his wife were found guilty after 2 brave survivors told police their story.  The courts in India heard the testimonies of up to 9 girls who were rescued during a police raid. Police say that in most cases after children are free they go home to their parents and never come to testify.  The girls told stories of forced abortions rape that they faced and even described how some committed suicide.  One girl was kidnapped at age 11 and forced to have sex with 20 men a day for three years. One of the trailers was arrested after he was spotted in a railway station.  Each of the victims who testified received $7,000 USD for financial compensation.  Police say there is an estimate of 20 million sex workers in India and 16 million were victims of rape and trafficking. The Indian government says there's has been 8,000 cases of human trafficking reported only 28 of these cases went to trial.

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson was an American boxer who was the first African American heavyweight champ. When Johnson would be in the ring he was very quick and fast, he also had very strong hits. Johnson had a total of 104 fights with 73 wins, and 40 KO's. In 1912 Johnson was charged with violating the Mann Act. Johnson then ran away because he didn't want to get locked up. Johnson started to get less motivation for fighting but he wanted to come back to the U.S and the only way for him to come back without going to jail was if he won a fight with Jess Willard on April 5th in Cuba. In Johnson won every round until the 20th round was he started getting weak and tired. Jess Willard won the fight by KO.

Propaganda vs Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson the first African American boxer who won the heavy weight champion. He struggled so much to get where he was when he won. White Supremacy showed effect on Johnson. He would be threatened, he would be made fun of.  He was portrayed as a monkey in multiple news articles. Articles where the way that people got their news, famous news reporters like NY times. Not racist articles from white people trying to bring more hate against him. Once he obtained his fame Johnson was surprisingly able to go places where blacks were not allowed. He became a business man, a vary smart business man he knew when to quit. He wasn't the best with females, he got a lot of hate for sleeping with hundreds of white young women.

What the NRA has to say...

The NRA posted a video that said "Stand and Fight for our Kid's Safty by Joining NRA. Today's protests aren't spontaneous. Gun-hating billionaires and Hollywood elites are manipulating and exploiting children as part of their plan to DESTROY the Second Amendment and strip us of our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones."
The NRA is trying to make people think that these marches are going to take away everybody's guns away. Their job is to sell guns, they do this by telling people that they need them for protection. "They want to sell weapons by exploiting people's fears" (The Washington Post).
In my opinion, the marches are not to just completely take everyone's second amendment. People are done and tired of KIDS getting a hold of a gun so easily. They are tired of their friends and family getting murdered. These marches are here to bring awareness and to get there to create stricter gun laws.
Do you think that the NRA is handling this right? Do you think that creating that video with kids saying they are being manipulated is ok?

Should Students Be Able To Grade Their Teachers?

In high school, there are 180 days we spend in school. We are overwhelmed with stress and loads of school work, all for a letter grade. We've all had good teachers and bad teachers. The only time we get any input on how our teachers are doing is at the end of the year in an anonymous survey that is very generalized. I feel like how they do as a teacher is just as important as how we do as a student. Do you feel like we should be able to grade our teachers?

Drinking Age.. Should it be lowered or raised?

This topic is very controversial. The drinking age is 21 as we all know.. only in America. In Europe the legal drinking age is 18. I know that the culture is different between America and Europe, because I've been to Europe and there were parents/their children drinking at my age.. even lower. There were 14 year old guys that knew when enough drinks were enough. I feel like some of us are mature enough to make that decision too. Should it be lowered? When I asked this question many people said no because more people would get wasted. I feel like this law isn't stopping anyone from drinking, especially teenagers. Some people argue that tolerance to alcohol will be much higher when we're 21 and that it is bad for our immune system. In my opinion, alcohol is bad for your system wether you're 18 or 21. In order to build your tolerance to alcohol, you would have to drink more. I don't think that depends on wether you get older. We are teenagers. I think most of us had at least one shot in our high school years and if you haven't, that's totally up to you. I am not encouraging teenagers to drink. I feel like when we are 18, we are legally and adult therefore we should be able to be mature enough to make our own decisions. Another point that was said to me was that more people will drink and drive. This is another very serious topic. I've done some research and at one point in America the legal drinking age was 18. It has been proven that more people who were 18 were drinking and driving. Honestly, I don't know where I stand at this point. There are so many different perspectives and I can't plot my opinion.

Childhood Bathtub Playtoy, harmful or not??

According to researchers, found that rubber duckies are full of dirt and bacteria after cutting it in half. They prove that it is a haven for bacteria such as Legionella and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria that is often "implicated in a hospital-acquired infections." Certain bacteria is good for childrens immune system to help strengthen it, but these types of bacteria are not. Amazon is now advertising water-tight bath toys to prevent mildew and bacteria from growing inside. What do you think about this? Do you think this is irrelevant/not harmful? Or do you find this relevant and are glad that this study has been found.

Amon Goeth

Amon joined the Nazi youth group at the age of 17, he then moved over to nationalist paramilitary gorup at the age of 19, at the age 22 he joined the austria Nazi party, that same year he joined the S.S. Then became commandant at Plaszow, where life was suppose to be dreadful. Prisoners at the camp Plazow would not live longer that 4 weeks, it was luck if they did. They would take 50 randon jews from barracks and kill them, people would be publicly hung, and people would be given lashes if they did not confess to who stole or had hidden food. Amon would shoot children that were playing in the camp with his rifle. Amon ws arrested in 1944, and hung to death in 1945. Sometimes its hard to understand why would people do such things, but it all starts from young ages, he started when he was 17, Hitler as well, then they grow up with only what they know from these groups they join. Who do we blame?

Terror Attack in France

On March 23 2018, a French officer named Arnaud Beltrame was shot and killed by an ISIS supporter. The ISIS supporter was in a super market attacking people. At the market he held a young women  hostage but the cop switched places with her being called a hero. The attacker, Radouane Lakdim shouted that he was a ISIS solider while shooting. The attacker opened fire and killed a worker and a customer. He was shot and died on scene by police.

March For Our Lives

On Saturday, there were nation-wide demonstrations protesting gun violence. This march was lead by student survivors from the Parkland shooting last month. Of course gun control discussion is a very contentious subject in our fiercely bipartisan political climate. Some opposers of the march like news commentator Tomi Lahren tweeted things like "Simply being anti-NRA is not a solution. March FOR something, not just against everything.". It is an interesting opinion except Ms. Lahren literally contradicted herself in her own tweet. The official name of the march was "March For Our Lives", emphasis on the "FOR". Many opposers of this movement think that it is a anti-second amendment movement or even a anti-conservative movement, and they could not be more wrong. The children of this country are dying, and the people that are pro-gun are prioritizing guns over the future leaders of this country, and that is unacceptable.

B&E

The other week my friends house was broken into and robbed. The startling thing to me was they did it mid day in broad daylight. My friend was really scared because she found out by walking in the house, what if they were still there? What would they do to my friend? The robbers had gotten off with about 20,000$ worth of items. Just knowing they have been in her room scared her the most someone broke your sacred area has a larger effect than I realized. She also told me that a lot of what they lost wasn't money value but when they took her sisters computer she lost all the information on her computer all her photos for the last couple years. How did people get away with this robbery mid day with the house being 1/2 mile from Los Altos High School.

Dog Supremacy?

I took my dog to the dog park as i get there this lady with her dog that´s bigger than mine goes in as well. Her dog for some reason never stopped barking at mine, the lady didn't like that. She came up to me and told me if i could put my dog out like if my dog was the one barking. I said no, my dog was not even paying attention to your dog if u don´t like it then you get out. What did her stupid dog have against my dog, and why did she think i was going to take my dog out. Was it because she was older and she thought i should have listened?

White Supremacyin sports

White Supremacy was (no longer is) the idea that the white were superior to any other race. Did white people really believe in white supremacy? Why didn't the white people let the blacks compete in athletic events. If they really believed in white supremacy they wouldn't have a problem letting blacks compete. They knew for a fact that blacks were better at somethings. Jack Johnson African American boxer that was excluded from professional boxing, because the white box was scared to lose to him and bring drought to white supremacy. Jackie Robinson proved himself wrong to the white, this along with many other sports had been huge issues.

Pug Dog does Nazi stuff.

CNN reported a story about a comedian by the name of Mark Meechan who was sentenced to six months in prison for violating section 127 of the UK communications act, it prohibits the use of offensive content through electronic communications. Basicly, Meechan committed a hate crime.

What did Meechan do, exactly? In a youtube video, Meechan made his pug dog do the nazi salute at his command, in another clip the dog was watching Nazi rallies. Meechan had taught his dog for weeks. The video was rather harmless, but a lot of people took offense and Meechan was sentenced.

Meechan said he did not intend to offend anyone and feels that he did not do anything wrong in the long run and has also said that he is not racist. He made the video for his girlfriend who kept annoying Meechan because she liked to say his dog was cute.

Personally, I did not take offense to the video and it made me chuckle, though I think nazi and holocaust jokes don´t have any substance sometimes. I also think that this law that put Meechan in infringes on people´s free speech.

What do you think about section 127 or the video?

Racism

When we were watching the Jack Johnson documentary today and talked about how the journalists and announcers switched assumptions or phrases between races in boxers, it reminded me about present day announcers and how they do the same but in a way less racist way or not knowingly doing so. For example when I was watching a soccer game the other day there was two similar players one white and one latino, they both were players that dribbled a lot and have very good skill but the announcers always would applaud the white player as being technical and very thoughtful with his movement and when referring to the latinos same play style would say he has great flair and is naturally gifted figuring out the moves as he goes. Or in a basketball game where the announcers will always applaud black athletes about their physicality or the toughness and the white player with their technique or smart moves. None were meant to be racist and most were unknowingly doing this I just thought this was a cool observation and was reminded when we were watching the documentary and paused to converse about this.

Are 1st World Countries responsible for other countries?

We blame the United States for not coming to help aid the tutus and the Hutu genocide, and many people believe that larger countries like the US should aid countries like these in situations like this. However, time and time again, the US is called upon and responds to terrorism, communism, and other situations that we are expected to help. In fact, it seems to be one of the most generous countries in lending a helping hand, as other 1st world and powerful countries are bystanders. This supporting of other countries, of course, takes resources from ourselves, but if no one does it, these problems around the world will have no one to help. Should we continue to help, or urge other countries to help as well? Or should we only look out for ourselves and make sure our people stay on top?

Maryland High School Shooting

Earlier this week, a 17-year old boy had shoot at a 14year old by and a 16year old girl in the hallway of a Maryland high school around 8am. The 17-year old boy had has a prior relationship with the 16-year old girl which they don't exactly know how it ended but knows that it had recently end. The 14-year old boy was shot in the thigh and is now at home feeling better while the 16-year old girl was wounded in the head and has been on life support since Tuesday morning. She was left brain-dead after she was shot in the head by the 17-year old. Her parents told the news that they will be taking her off life support on Thursday night as for they believe that she will not be lasting. As the mom said about the 16-year old girl, the boy didn't just take her daughters life but he had taken parts out of her life because her daughter is now gone. The officers are still not sure if the gunman had killed himself or if a police officer had shot him in the mix of everything.

Austin bombings

In Austin Texas, there were mysterious bombings happening. The attacks started with bombs in packages outside of peoples homes. The bombs killed 2 people and injured many others. A week after the packaged bombs the attacks escalated when the bomber was sending packages of bombs through FedEx. After 3 weeks of the bombings, The 24-year-old suspect was found and ended up bombing the SUV he was in.

Bridge Collapse FIU - Negligence?

Recently in the news, Flordia International University's bridge collapsed killing 6 people five days after the bridge was repaired. Workers had begun adjusting the tension in two rods threaded through diagonal bridge trusses on the north side, near the C-4 canal, just before the collapse. The collapse they claimed could have been due to the cracks in the concrete reported two days prior to the collapse. Engineers that did not partake in the construction of the bridge, claim due to the cracks tension between the rods could have adjusted causing the incident. A Miami-Dade police homicide squad is conducting a criminal investigation to determine whether any negligence occurred. But prosecuting such a case would be difficult, it will come down “to science and the experts.” Throughout history we see negligence taken place throughout countries from the violation of not punishing the violation of human rights and laws. So if negligence occurred what would the sentencing be?

tutis

the hutus would phrase, "cut the tall tress now!"  that started everything with killing the tutsis. The tutsis were liked by the belgians because they were taller and had longer necks, they looked like regular People. The hutus werent having it and UN soldiers would stand there and watch because they were just peacemakers. The hutus wanted to eliminate the whole population. Most children were targeted because they were going to be the new generation of tutsis, most women were being raped and used in sex slavery. tutsi rebels managed to stop the genoed, the UN dd nothing to stop the genocide. close to 1M tustis were killed.

Genocide

Do you guys think genocide can happen again, knowing what comes with it?

Rwanda Overview

Rwanda is located in East Africa, completely landlocked. This is the location where the Rwandan Genocide took place against the Tutsi.  By the large majority of the government leaders known as the Hutu. During a 100 day period, 500,000 to 1 million Tutsi were killed. The Genocide was planned by members of core political elite members who ran the top levels in the government. Both the army, militia, and gendarmerie were the perpetrators. Due to the extreme amount of harm that could possibly be inflicted upon the United Nations if claimed a Genocide, many helping countries retrieved their men. Letting the war continue because they would not claim it as a genocide. If it were to, they would have to send help. If you were in charge of one of the United Nations, would you have claimed it as a genocide to help the Tutsi who were being brutally murdered? Or would you have retrieved you men, and prevent spending money and armory on a nation that "doesn't matter"? upright={{{image_upright}}}

Joe McKnight

Joe McKnight was a very successful football player with the USC Trojans and the New York Jets. Back in December of 2016, after another man by the name of Ronald Gasser got in a road rage incident with McKnight, Gasser shot and killed the 28 year old. In this incident, Gasser pulled out a gun on an unarmed McKnight, and shot him dead in a matter of seconds. Based on this report, Gasser was simply charged with manslaughter and 30 years in prison. In my opinion, this is a case of second-degree murder because once he took out his gun, he knew that he had to opportunity to kill and he intended to do so. Gasser tried to claim it as self-defense, but I believe using a gun against an unarmed man is a cowardly way to defend yourself. Even though we don't talk about court cases in this class anymore, what do you guys think this was? Manslaughter or Second degree murder?

Crimes against Humanity

“Crimes against humanity” was first used in 1915 by the Allied governments including France, Great Britain and Russia and the United States. When the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire was happening and the declaration was finally said( except for US). Moreover, the term was more known for the events that happened after World War II in 1945 when the Holocaust happening killing over 6 million jewish people. The crimes against humanity were for the first time prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal (IMT) in Nuremberg. When people who particiapating in these mass killings were put on trial and sentenced to death or another punishment.
Since then, the notion of crimes against humanity has evolved and gone through multiple changes because of the many definitions that go into and associate with law. Crimes against humanity have not yet been inputed worldwide as an treaty with an international law, unlike genocide and war crimes. Although there are efforts to do this, many still wonder what these crimes fully entitle. The definition our nation uses for the crimes against humanity is that it consists of any acts committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population, with knowledge of the attack can cause: mass murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, imprisonment, torture, rape, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender. This also include other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health.

Denial of the Armenian Genocide

During WW1, the Ottoman Empire killed over 1.5 million Armedians while this is clearly planned and conducted against a specific group of people. The governments of Turkey and Azerbaijan still fail to claim this event as a genocide or going as far as saying it never happening. Though they are in denial many refer to these killings were also known to be called the first modern genocide. This was also described as a success of the planned out and organized systematically way to eliminate the Armenians and cover the truth as many do not hear about this event as much as the Holocaust. Though there is some evidence of the genocide such as pictures, survivors and many anti-Turkish government propaganda was largely spread. And there was a major conspiracy that spread throughout the empire about the Armenians helping the enemy. Instead of seeing this and taking responsiblity the Turkish claim that these series of event either did not occur or that it was somehow justified at the time.
Image result for armenian genocide While countries like France, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, and Slovakia officially outlawed the Denial of the Armenian Genocide, the US fails to do this as they have deliberately avoided officially recognizing it as a genocide to avoid harming relations with Turkey. Though this is a matter of the nations interest we still have to duty to think about the wolrd as a whole and bring justice not just hide behind everything and stay silent in the corner.

Terrorism has it been forgotten?

As more and more time goes by we see that talks about terrorism or attempts of terrorist attacks in the USA have died down. But could it be that people just don't have the  time anymore to pay attention to what is happening or are not well informed. When we talk about terrorist attacks we think of a guy from the middle east that blew up something. But we are blinded, and we don't see that there is so much terrorism happening in the USA. We see attacks like the Boston bombing and we take that as a terrorism attack in the USA but what about the killings what about the people that go out and kill others because its their "beliefs". Why is it that, that isn't terrorism and they are labeled as "crazy" people how many more shootings and killings isn't gonna take for us to see that a terrorist can also be a person that is white or that is black or Mexican, it doesn't always have to be a middle eastern. So my question is have we forgotten that America is constantly under terrorist attacks all the time or are we gonna label the terrorist as crazy people?

US Cowards?

US decided to ignore the Rwandan genocide. But yet seem to call it a success. They went on calling this ¨Acts of Genocide¨, days after the killings started. Do you think US could have saved many Tutsi's from dying? We know that congress was waiting on the president, and the white house looking toward UN. The miscommunication led to both not doing anything, and the genocide continued. US also pulled out the troops that were in Somalia, The Peace keeping mission.  Why do you think US was so uncountable when mostly needed?

screen time and sleep

A lot of homework has been assigned on computer by teachers that is monitored through google classroom, some students do it during the day and some students stay up late at night trying to finish the assignment. The students who are up late at night are most affected by the negative side effects of spending too much time looking at a computer screen. When it is almost bedtime, the body produces a hormone called melatonin which signals the body to prepare for sleep. Students who are up late doing homework on the computer and looking their computer screens for a long period of time suppresses the production of melatonin and in turn the students lose sleep. As students, enough sleep  is important to get through day and keep up with the routine.

This is a problem for students who have other responsibilities and can´t attend to their homework during the day, or students that just do their homework at night. There needs to be a balance between computer work and work done on paper to help students get enough sleep.

The Dangers in the Deep Web

The deep web is a hidden part of the internet that is not accessible through regular search engines such as google chrome. A special browser known as the Tor browser that keeps users anonymous. The deep web gained fame based on the illegal activities that occur.  From sites that perform medical experiments on live humans to animal torture to drug markets, the deep web has it all. In 2013 the FBI shut down the most famous drug market on the deep web known as the eBay from illegal drugs this site sold drugs such a cocaine, marijuana, LSD, and heroin. This site also had weapons fake ID's, Passport and even citizenship. The FBI traced the IP address to a businessman in San Francisco named Ross Ulbricht he was convicted and got life in prison. The deep web is also home to several Pedophilic sites full of child porn. In the site visited by one FBI agent was reported to have a name of the child a list of videos they been in. The site was based in a foreign country and had various sets such as castles and surgery rooms. The children who some were as young as 6 were smothered in makeup this site was the most known pedophilic site on the dark web. In 2016 the FBI ran a fake pedophilic site and tracked down the IP addresses of up to  10,000 men. In parts of the deep web, hitmen offer their services the prices range from as low as up to $ 10,000. In 2017 vice did a report in which they hired a hitman giving a fake address and a picture of a dead relative the hitman used an encrypted email and stated they would be happy to help.   Things to be found on the web are snuff films which are videos and live streams of murder . Users on the darknet have to pay to view these videos in which case they use the bitcoin an online currency that keeps both users anonymous in which case the paid user becomes the director of these films. Cannibalism is also there many others posting on forums and seeks others to kill and eat them as part of a sexual fetish along with instructional videos of limbs being cooked. Finally in the deep web sites that perform Nazi-like experiments on people ranging from being torn limb from limb, starvation, injection of bleach in a pregnant body and infant tolerances to x rays. People who run the sites claim to be doctors and medical students. The test subjects are mainly homeless people picked off the streets and once the died from these experiments their bodies are disintegrated with acid and whatever is left of them are thrown in dumpsters of meat shops in order to not be found. These sites and much more range form the various forums and other things you can find on the deep dark web. Not to be confused with Mariana's web named after the deepest part of the ocean known as the Marianas trench is the darkest part of the internet with only very few being able to visit.

Forest Hills High School lock down

On March 15th Forest Hills High school was put on a 3-hour lockdown due to a threat was written on a desk. The note on the desk said that he wanted to shoot down the school because he had no friends. The person responsible for the hoax is now in custody.

Truth Behind Bribes

Bribery is happening all over the world and it takes on many different shapes and forms. Bribery is defined by dictionary as persuade (someone) to act in one's favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement. Bribery is not legal in the United States but happens currently with government officials and cooperations. The biggest case of bribery was by the company Kelloggs Brown and Root also know as KBR inc. and high ranking Nigerian officials. In 2009 KBR was charged by the Department of Justice, when KBR was charged the CEO Albert Jack Stanley pleaded guilty to the crime in 2012. Overall he was fined 579 Million dollars and sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. This is just one example of big cooperations and high ranking officials to conspire in using bribes. All over the world brides occur, in 3rd world countries bribes are more influential than in a 1st world country. When people decide to bribe they loose honor that other people had for them. Bribing is a way of cheating the system, it shows you don'[t know how to achieve your goals without it. It is like paying a app to get your instagram account 1000k more likes, they weren't earned you took the easy way of paying to achieve your goal.

Walkouts

As everyone knows, on March 14, there was a Nationwide School Walkout. There was many people that participated in this walkout at our school. In total, there was 870 unexcused absences during the period of the Walkout. I personally did not participate because I needed to finish my schoolwork. I also do not think Walkouts are an effective way to express our thoughts. For those who attended, which I respect, I question whether or not you guys found it effective and if so, why?

FIU Bridge

According to The Washington Post, yesterday afternoon at 1:30 pm, a newly built pedestrian bridge collapsed over a freeway on the FIU campus. The bridge was one of the first of its kind, being a "swing-on" bridge specifically for pedestrians to be able to walk over the freeway. Unfortunately, the bridge collapsed in broad daylight when the cables were in the midst of being tightened. As of Thursday night, there are 6 pronounced dead, 8 more cars stuck under the 950 ton bridge. The search for people trapped under the bridge has continued throughout the night and has finally come to a stop this morning. The construction company sends expresses their grief and says "The victims and their families deserve to know what went wrong. There will be an extraordinary review into what the errors were and what led to the catastrophic collapse". Hopefully the construction company finds the problem and is able to fix it soon.

What happened to bitcoin?

Just several months ago everyone was talking about bitcoin and how its value was skyrocketing and would not stop. At one point in December, it was even almost worth 20 thousand for one bitcoin. Yet, I don't seem to hear people talk about it as much these days.

When my mom heard about bitcoin, she believed what everyone else believed. That it would keep growing. She invested thousands of dollars into it, and it seemed to be a smart decision, because day after day, it grew by the thousands. However, one day when she checked, she saw that bitcoin had finally crashed. She ended up losing everything! (She invested)

Now Bitcoin's value is sitting about 8 thousand dollars per bitcoin. Will bitcoin continue to be valued as years are to come, or will people eventually forget about it?

Brain Scans for background checks.

Psychopaths are known to be born with a deficiency for having empathy for others and being extremely self-centered. The ventromedial prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that is responsible for empathy and decision making. With modern technology, it is possible to run brain scans on people to see whether this part of the brain is active or not, therefore determining whether a person is a psychopath or not. Could we incorporate these brain scans into background checks for guns? It may be costly but it would be the choice of the person that wants to buy the gun to pay for this test in order to attain a firearm. Would eliminating psychopaths from getting guns help stop shootings, or would these things happen as often by ordinary people and sociopaths. Also, is this ethically right? Do psychopaths have the right to the second amendment too and would it be discrimination to treat them any differently for how they were born.  Could psychopaths even be considered a race or ethnicity or even community like the deaf community?

The Rwanda ¨Acts of Genocide¨

The Rwanda atrocity caused by the Hutu, against the Tutsi with an estimate of 500,000 deaths. It accrued in April 7, 1994 - July 1994, almost 50 years apart from the Holocaust. In comparison witch do you believe to be more violent. The Tutsi´s went from having authority over Hutu´s to getting murdered by them. Do you believe that the Interahamwe were worse than the Nazis. Discard the number of people that were murdered. 500,000 Hutu , 6 million Nazis

Ilse Koch – war crimes

Known as "the concentration camp murderess", Ilse Koch, was one of the numerous nazis prosecuted for committing horrific war crimes during the Holocaust. Koch began working in 1936 as a guard at Sachsenhausen, where her husband, Karl-Otto, was the camp commander. Although she rejects such claims, the following year Koch was suspected to have taken part in a inhumane experiment in which she was accused of taking souvenirs from the tattooed skin of murdered jews. In 1940, she moved to Buchenwald and built an indoor sports arena using $62,500 that she had taken from the inmates. When Karl Otto was transferred to Lublin in 1941, Ilse Koch remained at Buchenwald until 1943, the year of her arrest. The charges held against both the Kochs consisted of private enrichment, embezzlement, as well as the murder of helpless prisoners. Ilse Koch was imprisoned until 1944 after being acquitted for lack of evidence. Being left a widow once her husband had been executed for his acts of crime, Koch went to live in Ludwigsbur with her surviving family, where she was arrested again by US authorities a year later in 1945.

Should Monika feel Responsible for her father's actions?

Monika, Gorth's daughter watches the film "Schindlers List" to get to know how her father really was as a person. While watching the film she realizes that her father was a terrible man and did awful things to innocient people. Monika felt that she was responsible for her father's actions because that was her dad. If I was in Monika's situation I would feel slightly responsible because that is my father bust also she wasn't the one who was making the decission to do what he did. Do you think Monika Should feel responsible?

Walkouts; Do They Work?

Tomorrow (March 14) there will be a national walkout at 10 am. High school students around the nation will be walking out of there classrooms in solidarity with Stoneman Douglas. The hashtag never again has been thrown around to say that never again will we have a school shooting. My question is, do these protests work? Do they accomplish anything? I think they do. First of all, it shows older generations (that can vote) about what younger generations want and how far they are willing to go. Also, for the younger generation, it can help strengthen their belief in what they are protesting. To see that many others feel the same way can make them feel good and build stronger beliefs about the subject. In this way, when they are old enough to vote, they will feel more motivated to make a decision. Are you planning on walking out tomorrow/ did you walk out? What were your reasons for doing it or not doing it?

Would You Survive the Holocaust?

I am exactly 19% European Jewish according to my DNA results. The great-granddaughter of Russian Jewish immigrants who fled the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, I have often wondered what would have happened to my family if they hadn't left. If they managed to survive the revolution what would have happened during WWII? In German terms, I would be a Mischling of the second degree. Saved by my families non-practicing history and my Catholic baptism. The life of a Mischling of the second degree was relatively unaffected by Nazi law as while they were subjected to the same job restrictions, they were permitted to marry non-Jewish Germans and were not imprisoned so long as they were German citizens.
Now put yourself in Nazi Germany, where would you stand? Blond hair and blue eyes? You're probably fine. But for basically everyone else, you have to examine Nazi race theory. While it classifies Jews as the priority "enemies", Nazi ideology targeted other groups as well including Gypsies, the disabled, Poles, Soviet POWs, and Afro-Germans. During Hitler's rule, it is believed that between 20,000 and 25,000 Afro-Germans lived in Germany, though subject to the Nuremberg laws no official policies were put in place towards Afro-Germans as the government saw the population as being too small to warrant official guidelines.
Overall, while this is a small sample of what "non-Aryans" were subjected to in Nazi Germany, it is the closest we will get to understanding the Nazi response to POC populations. Though its extremely likely that if there had been a larger POC population in Europe at the time, they would have been one of the main targets of the Nazis.

Arming Teachers

With the latest mass shooting that occurred a little less than a month ago, gun laws have been in the spotlights of our mainstream media coverage. The topic of arming teachers is something that I feel very strongly about. While most teachers are fiercely dedicated to their students, teachers are also human. I personally can relate to this because my mother is a professor and I can often see how the actions (both good and bad) of her students affect her in her personal life as well. There have been countless stories of teachers being racially bias, having gender biases, and being generally abusive towards students. Arming schools can only enhance the danger of gun violence in schools. There are statistics about when there is a gun in a home, the likelihood of gun related injury is increased drastically, I can bet the same would be true for schools. There is only one way to decrease these acts of random violence: limited access and stricter gun laws.

Background Checks

Image result for gun show
A serious topic that has been questioned by many people in America, extensive background checks. There has been this ongoing debate of weather we need intesive bakcground checks when people decide to buy a gun. But the question is will it even work, is there too many guns in America already, where it is very easy to buy a weapon. I watched a video about gun shows and how easy it was to get a weapon. At gun shows they have booths where private sellers sell there gun to other people. Most of the people do not need to perform any background checks all you need is to have cash on hand and your set. In the video the seller was interviewed and he said how he didn't care about the person background or ask why he needed a gun. The seller just said "I came here to sell guns, if he offers me the price I'm asking for Im going to sell the gun." This just shows how easy it is to get yourself a gun.

Teachers with Pistols?

Image result for teachers armed with gunsShould teachers in the US be given pistols to use in times similar to school shootings. Should teachers be given a mental test before given the weapon and taken courses on how to use a gun. Personally I dont feel safe if anyone of my teachers had gun with them becasue of the fact that at any moment you could piss them off and they could kill you. Also from a teachers perspective it puts a lot of pressure on them to feel that since they have a pistol they should defend each one of their students in these types of situations. If this does end up happening and teachers are given pistols, I think we should raise their salary since the average teacher gets paid 40,000 a year. I think we should really consider maybe not banning guns but finding a way to not sell ammunition to certain people or we need more intensive background checks.

Teachers with Guns

Due to the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 students, Donald Trump proposed an idea in where teachers should have guns to protect themselves and students when these types of events occur. This idea has brought some conflicting opinions about it, some say that this could help in shootings and others say that this will cause problems as what is to stop a teacher from shooting the students when they are given a gun. Personally, I believe that teachers shouldn't receive guns because it will cause problems and only give more stress to students in the school. What do you think, should teachers be given guns?

Rwandan Genocide

The Rwandan Genocide was carried out in 1994. As Rwanda was in the middle of a civil war. This build-up to the Genocide of a million Tutsis and Hutu people was due to the unstable government in a matter of 6 weeks. This all began in 1897 when the German government came to take charge of the country. As the two tribes were not too familiar with each other there was no major conflict but as the German government came into control they immediately put the Tutsi tribe in charge. Due to the Tutsi tribe only making only 10-11% of the population it formed a sort of competition between the two groups blinding them and leaving Germany to continue staying in charge.
As time continued the Tutsis were educated and superior to the Hutus tribe. This lead to hatred among the two as they did not see each other as equal. When the Tutsis attempted to become independent, because of how the government was organized, it leads to Belgium trying to reverse the power and prejudices and take away the privileges of Tutsi and give them to the Hutus group so they would be distracted and not overthrow the government. Rwanda still ended up becoming independent in 1962 under the control of the Hutus government.
As a result of the hatred and anger building up against the Tutsis and everyone associated with them. Once something sparked the flare to beginning killing many did nor questioned based on their prejudices and everything people were telling. Making them believe the killings were okay and went forward killing neighbors and friends.
The Tutsi tribe was used as a scapegoat much like the Jewish people in the holocaust as Tutsis were said and seen to be blood and power thirsty and trying to infiltrate the Hutu way. Although in this case there was a much brutal scene. While many in the holocaust could hide clearly behind the switch of a gas chamber many in Rwanda did not have this technology and had to do all the killing and murders by hand making it twice as brutal and ruthless.
Despite all of this the UN was aware of what was happening but did not mention or call attention to this time as a genocide. Though it was preplanned and organized following the definition of a genocide it was not clearly labeled that until after a very long time when the UN finally came to end the killings. This shows a real change that has to happen and how the rule to act against a genocide needs to be revised so this massacre of killings cannot happen again. No more loss of lives.

Should Schindler actually be forgiven?

Oskar Schindler was a member of the Nazi Party who was known for saving the lives of many Jews during the holocaust. Schindler saved them by employing them into his factories in Poland. Oskar Schindlers motivation at first was the money with his businesses but then he realized he wanted to save the Jews and employ them in his factories. Schindler saw how the Jews were being treated and realized that it wasn't right for them to be treated that way. Schindler knew he wanted to help the Jews out when he saw a little girl in a red dress hiding from the SS men. Later Schindler saw that little girl's dead body in a pile with other bodies.

Rwanda

Personally what happened in Rwanda is very sad and the Hutu say it was payback for how they were treated I would argue. That was the Tutsis did does kill any Hutu during their time in power not going to lie they did take away a lot of power from the Hutu but never killed them even though they were told to be the superior race. The Hutu the minute they got power they made the same conditions for the Tutsis if they had stopped there I would call that karma the fact is that they went beyond karma and took their revenge way too far. By killing over 800,000 Tutsis by doing this they escalated their hatred for each other to the point where the Tutsis eventually started to fight back. Causing the Hutu to run to different countries. What makes me mad about this whole situation is the fact that the UN didn't get involved and tried to stop some of the killings. I don't know what it is about Humans that makes us turn a blind eye to someone or a country in help when we don't get anything out of it. Life has a mysterious way of showing us what was capable of seeing all our mistakes in history proves that theory.

"The Silent Holocaust" - Guatemala

In class, we are currently watching a documentary called "Worse than War". There was a part of the documentary that stood out the most to me. They talked about the Mayan Genocide. It was a shock to me because being born there I had not once heard about it. It occurred in the early 1980s. That was only 40 years ago! To hear the terrible things that the government did to the Mayan Indians was disturbing. They did these terrible things because they claimed that they were working towards a "communist coup". They would cut open pregnant women, slam innocent babies to the ground right in front of their mothers, they would rape the women and many other terrible things. These people did most of the killing with their hands. They wanted them to be brutally murdered and for them to suffer. The killers would also destroy crops, slaughtered livestock, contaminated their water supply, and offended sacred places and cultural symbols.

I would assume that most of those who did the killing or were part of this genocide are still alive. Do you think that these people try to deny this ever happened? To this day, people still deny that the Holocaust ever happened, do you think that they are doing the same with the Mayan Genocide?

Preventing School Shootings

First of all I think arming teachers is a horrible idea. No matter their training or no matter the gun I do not believe a teacher should have access to any weapons. One reason I have for this strong opinion is because of a teacher my sister had when she was in high school. Her class was misbehaving and the teacher had been at that school for many years and was known for having a temper, that teacher would throw things like white board erasers and markers but one day she got really mad and threw a desk at a student (pretty impressive for how old she was) after that she was obviously fired and not allowed back on campus. Now most of us would think that's ridiculous and wouldn’t happen again and that's probably true for the schools around us but think about how many other schools there are in the state, in the country that are nowhere near as good as ours. Some of those teachers could be as much of a risk as giving the students guns to protect themselves. I think the schools need to do a better job of responding to potential threats, watching kids with depression or mental illness, encouraging students watching out for one another and reporting anything suspicious. Sure it would make a lot more work for the school but no matter how much work it would be it would be worth even saving one life. I also think some schools, depending on threat level, should have metal detectors, less entrances, and better plans in case something happens. And I think the last resort would be to have government issued security. And I specify government issued because if you have school district issued they have to follow different rules, have different training, less controlled, and would get in less trouble for a mistake.

Gun control specifics

The 2nd amendment or the right to bear arms has been a very controversial topic and people feel strongly about different opinions involving it. Yes, in a perfect world there would be no guns. There would be world peace and everyone would get along. Yet, we know that this is not true. We live in a world with a lot of hate out there, and although we may not necessarily hate others, some people want to feel like they and the ones they love are safe. many people arm themselves to protect them and their families from those out there that may try to hurt them. What is the solution to all this violence?

People believe in many different restrictions on guns and some people believe everything should be legal. People argue that there should not be semiautomatic rifles and pistols because they shoot too fast and can be reloaded too quickly. The same argument is made about automatics. So where is the point that a weapon becomes too dangerous? if the point is to stop someone else with a weapon, isn't the point of it to be dangerous. If by our 2nd amendment right that we believe that if the government were to become corrupt and some terrible leader took control, we are supposed to be able to raise a militia, and you can't fight a government with knives. Some may say that we could not resist the government even with a militia, yet in 2017 a militia held Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife preserve for 41 days. This is a group that did not have even close to a majority of Americans supporting them and weren't fighting a cause as cruel as Hitler. But this proves that people can make a difference, even with a government as powerful as our own. It is our right to be in a position to make a stand in case our government gets to a point where it is too extreme and corrupt. This still leads to the problem of school shootings and common murder. An argument could be made that gun control actually consumes more lives than it saves because it leaves more people vulnerable. What do you think?

Would you have done the same?

While watching the videos we seen most of the SS officers abusing many of the prisoners because they wanted and were being told to. Some did the things they did out of fear of being hurt like the Jews if they did not follow orders. While watching i´m sure when many of us heard this point we automatically thought of it as dumb or stupid because no one can force you to do something you do not want to. But if you were in the SS men shoes would you have done the same to save your own life? or would you have gone against orders and face the chances of being killed?.

school shooting prevention

With all the school shootings happening lately, there have been many discussions that involve what causes these school shootings and how to prevent future incidents from happening. I will focusing on ideas that could help.

I believe that future incidents of school shootings should not be all over the media like the previous ones had. Yes the people have the right to know, but I believe that some people when they see the attention that the shooters get, they want the attention for themselves and they may even see these other shooters as role models.

I do not beleive in stricter gun control because I believe that if people were called upon to turn in their weapons, only the good people would turn in their weapons, and the villians of society would not. This would lead to the good people being more vulnerable to getting hurt by others because they are defenseless. Instead, I think there should be more thorough background checks for guns and greater punishments for the people responsible of the background check if they are lazy and let something slip by them.

I think there should be more groups at school that welcome in students that are having trouble. Kids without friends should have a place to go.

If this doesn't work, I think that we should treat schools like an airport. Have armed security that works for the government only at the entrance. I don't believe teachers should be given guns because they may be irritated at a student and pop off. Only government security and security being their only job. Only one way in with a metal detector. Some schools do this already, and it may be necessary if people keep dying. I

Guatemalan Genocide

The Genocide in Guatemala happened between the years 1981–1983.
Guatemala was known as the for it remarkable Mayan civilization, which prospered throughout the 10th century AD. At this time new Spanish explorers conquered this region in the 16th century, the Mayans became slaves in their own homeland. They force to become the inferior people at this point in time they are still known as the unequal and lowerclass majority of Guatemala's population.

In the early 1960s, a civil war broke out due to inequalities existing in the economic and political life. In the 1970s, the Mayan people began participating in protests against the repressive government,
demanding greater equality and inclusion of the Mayan language and culture. Being controlled by the military ruler Efraín Ríos Montt, they went throughout a campaign in 1982 aimed at massacring thousands of indigenous peasants. In an operation called “Operation Sofia”, they found evidence that should how there were “acts of genocide against groups of Mayan people.”
As read in files, "the army destroyed 626 villages, killed or “disappeared” more than 200,000 people and displaced an additional 1.5 million, while more than 150,000 were driven to seek refuge in Mexico."

There were my cases where many people do not know what happens to loved ones because there were forced disappearance policies which included "secretly arresting or abducting people, who were often killed and buried in unmarked graves."  The government also put in place a "scorched earth policy, destroying and burning buildings and crops, slaughtering livestock, fouling water supplies and violating sacred places and cultural symbols." This almost made it impossible to live anywhere as no matter one did to services it became inhabitable. Most of the action was by special units known as the Kaibiles who were private death squads. The violence faced by the Mayan people peaked between 1978 and 1986. Even Catholic priests and nuns also often faced violence no matter the cause as they supported and protected the rights of the Mayan people.

Holocaust Denial

Holocaust Denial is the act of denying the genocide of the Jews during the Holocaust. Majority of people that go through Holocaust Denial are Germans and the ancestors of those who were apart of the killings. Many that deny the Holocaust claim that Nazis' only goal was to deport the Jews from Reich. They did not use extermination camps and gas chambers as mass murders of the Jews. Those who also deny the Holocaust believe that the number of Jews killed were significantly lower than the actual figure presented in history. Majority of Holocaust deniers also believe that it was a hoax, a large exaggeration from Jewish conspiracy. In which the Jews were attempting to advance their interest. Supriengly in several countries Holocaust denial is illegal.

Why is it so easy to buy a gun?

In order to buy a gun, you have to go through background check. What does this background check consist of? Name, address, driver's license number all to the FBI and they give you the go ahead or they say nope. Additionally, gun owners must fill out a 4473, a basic questionnaire involving name and address, optional social security number and yes or no to questions like "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?" Where does this form go? It stays with the person who sold you the gun in paper form for 20 years. If the gun did happen to be used in a crime, law enforcement would use the serial number to contact Remington who would tell them the distributor. The distributor would then direct them to store where it was sold. While the concern exists for gun owner privacy, if the FBI had records of who owned guns then if they were to spot suspicious internet activity they could appraise the risk of them killing someone better. For example, the shooter in Florida had posted online and been reported for saying things online about his desire to be a school shooter. This small change of sharing gun owners information with the FBI could bring about big changes. Do you think this should be enacted? Is there another solution to this problem?

School Shooting in Florida

Almost a month ago there was a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Later in the day on February 14, suspect, Nikolas Cruz, 19 year old, had arrived at the high school around 2pm in the afternoon and started open firing into the classrooms. He started shooting the students that he saw in the hallways and even on the school grounds. After he shot 5 classrooms from the freshman building on the first and second floors he threw the rifle, vest and ammunition down the stairwell and blended in with the students and that is how he was able to get away easier. Cruz was expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for disciplinary reasons and has not been specified for the details on why he was expelled.

On the campus officer, Scot Peterson, was on campus and was armed when this all happened but said that he believed the shooter was outside the campus and decided to just wait and see what happens. He had taken cover outside rather than charging into the building when the shooting of 17 people had began. Sheriff Israel had described himself as being sick to his stomach and very upset with everything that had happened. The question that I have heard that is going around is, should we have officers on campus everywhere around the United States or even the world to protect us? Some people are saying yes we should while others are saying that no we shouldn't because if someone really wanted to shoot up a school, they can just walk onto an open campus at anytime, check and make sure there isn't a cop around and then start shooting. I understand that if most campus were an enclosed campus that it would be a different situation but see with either Los Altos, Mountain View, and other schools around the bay area we are more of an open campus and anyone can just walk on campus from any of the entrances and start open firing. What is your opinion? Do you think that we should or shouldn't have officers standing around schools so that we are "protected"?

The 45th Just Sued California

In what can be consider an incredibly hypocritical stance, President Trump sued the state of California over "sanctuary" laws. As a president who came into power because of a base that support less government involvement and adamantly support state rights, it is surprising to find that an right-leaning administration would sue a state over laws that are protected by the 10th Amendment.

The laws in question protect undocumented immigrants in the state of CA by barring government officials from asking for someone's citizenship status or participating in federal immigration policies. Jeff Sessions remained firm on the stance that sanctuary cities are the reasons behind gang violence and crime. He suggested that states can only receive certain federal grants if they comply with federal immigration policies.

On the other hand, CA maintain that having sanctuary policies in play "increase public safety by promote trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement, while allowing police resources to be used to fight other crimes" (Source).

Gun Culture

I think there needs to be collaboration in America´s gun culture in order to make any form of gun control.

The way I see it, I think the NRA and it´s supporters will never want to support laws that strip them of their guns or limit their use of guns. I feel like as long as there is a gun culture in America, there will be no new gun control; gun culture has been around ever since the bill of rights was made and America has a profound gun culture. I am not saying there should not be gun control, I am saying that it is going hard.

Chefs

I've been watching this new documentary show Ugly Delicious which I think relates really quite perfectly with the time that we live in and shows generation differences. The show has a cool camera change idea in one of their episodes showing the pizza ambassador leaders stating that it is not pizza unless we approve. The camera will then cut to these pizza chefs that are pushing the meaning of pizza. These chefs then talk about how their food is very much their personality or "a part of them on a plate." They speak of how todays chef verse last generations chef is a complete 180 since todays chefs are somewhat rebellious and very much part inventor compared to last generations chefs that were very much by the book and very traditional. I think its a good view of society today since everyone is pushing the boundaries in their fields especially in technology where ethical questions have begun to be brought up.

Australian child killer escapes death penalty if convicted

Peter Scully was on the run on the for 4 years for multiple charges against children. He fled Australia for the Phillippines in which he made some of the worst videos on the dark web in which pedophiles around the world paid to view them.   Authorities in the Philippines say it the worst cases of child abuse, torture, and murder they have ever seen.  One video in particular titled   " Daisy's Destruction" Shows an 18-month-old child being tied sexually assaulted tortured while being tied upside down her legs. This video is the most violent and disturbing video to ever reach the web. Although several censored screenshots appeared online people have tried to post the video in its entirety to online forums but its quickly taken down by authorities.  Scully ran a company on the dark web called NlF which stands for " No limits fun".  In one video shows the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl before Scully stranges her and buries her in a shallow grave under the house he was renting.  A new law passed in the Philippines now removing the death penalty the maximum sentence Peter Scully is life in prison. Scully faces 75 charges despite telling the media he was remorseful for what he did to the children. Eight of Scully's victims who are the age of 13 are being held in witness protection and social workers claim they are deeply traumatized. Scully was a former businessman who fled Australia in order to not be arrested for fraud. According to Philippine authorities, Scully became a cyber child porn kingpin where he sold these videos for $10,000 around the world. Scully kept two girls hostage for weeks where he tortured them and raped them before making them dig their own grave. Police in January suspected Scully was still running his cyber business through his jail cell.  Scully managed to maintain telephone an internet access while other prisoners were banned. Scully's trial date is still pending despite being arrested in 2015.

School Shootings and the Effects

With all the school shooting that are now happening in Americna is there safety in our educaton system. The most recent school shooting in Florida it brings up a lot of concern in school safety. Now laws are being passed for teachers to carry weapons, are you crazy. There is no way teachers should be given a gun becasue that is not what they signed up for. Teachers signed up to teach students and to educate the next gerneration of people. Teachers did not sign up to shoot pistols and fear for their life while wondering if they got time to grade homeworlk later, and still be getting paid 40,000 a year. Thats ridicoulous we need to start banning guns in America. You never hear about this in England or Austrailia. Mass shooiting are only in America for the sole reason that guns are legal and people who are crazy get a hold of them. This then results in hundred of families broken hearted for the rest of their lives because their son or daughter never reached the age of 17. I dont know how its gonna happen but we need an end to all of these school shootings, becasue why wake up every moring at 7 to go to a place Im not even guarateed my safety.

Surviving Holocaust

Image result for auschwitz
How to survive the holocaust, first thing if you can be of aryan descent. If you could be white with blue eyes, and love Germany. This will guarantee your survival rate during the hollocuast. If you cannot be white, try to be a very strong man or woman who has the ability to work. If then you can work to prolong your life, just like in the movie Schindlers list. If you are not strong and unable to work I would try to escape the camp you are being sent to becasue when you arrive that the camp they will just throw you in a gas chamber anyways. If you dont have the ability to escape and you are malnourished a weak like most oof the jews that were thrown in these camps, you will be killed.

Was he wrong?

During the film Schindler´s List, we viewed in the beginning as Schindler sat on a hill top watching as Jews were rounded up and being sent to concentration camps, he seemed sort of affected by it but still rode away on his horse. Towards the end of the film we seen as Schindler bought thousands of Jews from other camps and had them sent to his camp for labor. He used them as workers and used the products they produced for his own profit. But these Jews were not allowed to be killed or hurt for no reason because of that many Jews lived on. Some may view him as both a bad and good person, yes he saved the Jews from being killed in the other camps, but he did use them for his own profit. Was Schindler wrong for keeping the Jews for his own profit? If he did not have them in his own camp would majority of them be alive today?.
