With the latest mass shooting that occurred a little less than a month ago, gun laws have been in the spotlights of our mainstream media coverage. The topic of arming teachers is something that I feel very strongly about. While most teachers are fiercely dedicated to their students, teachers are also human. I personally can relate to this because my mother is a professor and I can often see how the actions (both good and bad) of her students affect her in her personal life as well. There have been countless stories of teachers being racially bias, having gender biases, and being generally abusive towards students. Arming schools can only enhance the danger of gun violence in schools. There are statistics about when there is a gun in a home, the likelihood of gun related injury is increased drastically, I can bet the same would be true for schools. There is only one way to decrease these acts of random violence: limited access and stricter gun laws.
100% agree with your opinion and infact recently a teacher who was qualified to handle guns which would make him one of the teachers trump said would make gun use in schools safe accidentally harmed some of his students. This teacher was in the reserves and even then he still managed to harm his students.
ReplyDeleteYes, I read about that too James. Bringing guns into the school will only make it dangerous for students. If an intruder comes into the school, the teacher will be as panicked as a student would. He/she might not be able to handle a gun while in that situation and it could just end up with a student being harm. Also, just hypothetically thinking, this could cause the intruder to attack more if he feels threatened with a teacher a gun.
