Walkouts

As everyone knows, on March 14, there was a Nationwide School Walkout. There was many people that participated in this walkout at our school. In total, there was 870 unexcused absences during the period of the Walkout. I personally did not participate because I needed to finish my schoolwork. I also do not think Walkouts are an effective way to express our thoughts. For those who attended, which I respect, I question whether or not you guys found it effective and if so, why?

  1. I did not participate in the walkout but I do see the reason why so much people participate. It is the same reason why in war there is so much propaganda, its a way of getting ideas across to as many people as possible. So even though you don't see a short term affect on all the walkouts that are happening you can slowly start to see that when kids walkout of class, other people see this and are aware of what is happening and start to form opinions which most of the time is with the people walkout

  2. I agree with Brian. It's more of a way to spread the idea that it is an issue and force people to at least think about it. The more you put it in people's minds and the more they think about it the more likely we will be able to force a change of some kind.

  3. I also agree, I did not participate in the walkout but I do think its a good way of showing and spreading the message you are trying to show.

  4. I did not participate in it. One of the reasons was because there are people who "walked out" just to ditch class. People aren't doing it for the right reason. I also feel like our school restricted our voice from being heard by just allowing us to go to the field. What good is that going to do for us?

I think the walkouts would be efficient if people were doing it for the right reason.
