The 45th Just Sued California
In what can be consider an incredibly hypocritical stance, President Trump sued the state of California over "sanctuary" laws. As a president who came into power because of a base that support less government involvement and adamantly support state rights, it is surprising to find that an right-leaning administration would sue a state over laws that are protected by the 10th Amendment.
The laws in question protect undocumented immigrants in the state of CA by barring government officials from asking for someone's citizenship status or participating in federal immigration policies. Jeff Sessions remained firm on the stance that sanctuary cities are the reasons behind gang violence and crime. He suggested that states can only receive certain federal grants if they comply with federal immigration policies.
On the other hand, CA maintain that having sanctuary policies in play "increase public safety by promote trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement, while allowing police resources to be used to fight other crimes" (Source).
