Are 1st World Countries responsible for other countries?
We blame the United States for not coming to help aid the tutus and the Hutu genocide, and many people believe that larger countries like the US should aid countries like these in situations like this. However, time and time again, the US is called upon and responds to terrorism, communism, and other situations that we are expected to help. In fact, it seems to be one of the most generous countries in lending a helping hand, as other 1st world and powerful countries are bystanders. This supporting of other countries, of course, takes resources from ourselves, but if no one does it, these problems around the world will have no one to help. Should we continue to help, or urge other countries to help as well? Or should we only look out for ourselves and make sure our people stay on top?

I think what the US is doing what they can and they don't really have any responsibility to save other countries from their problems because the US has problems of its own. But at the same time it sounds harsh because it seems like the US doesnt want to help countries that cant benefit the US. But at least they do something like make UN camps in different countries to try and keep the peace around the world.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, the idea is that by helping these countries now it will benefit us in the end. Perhaps by boosting them and making them another first world country they will pay it forward. Maybe they have resources we want. Another could be to save lives and perhaps those lives that were saved will owe us a debt that they will pay back later. Also, it should be noted that the US is definitely not the only 1st world country that helps others. The US does have the largest military so in tasks requiring armed forces it is usually our job to help because we do have those resources.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Jamie. We shouldn't blame the US directly but we do have the resources to help. And if we choose not to help because a third world country might not benefit us, then that's just wrong.
