US decided to ignore the Rwandan genocide. But yet seem to call it a success. They went on calling this ¨Acts of Genocide¨, days after the killings started. Do you think US could have saved many Tutsi's from dying? We know that congress was waiting on the president, and the white house looking toward UN. The miscommunication led to both not doing anything, and the genocide continued. US also pulled out the troops that were in Somalia, The Peace keeping mission. Why do you think US was so uncountable when mostly needed?
Maybe the US hesitation to stay or take the initiative to do anything was from the many times before they've gone to another country to "help" or do what they think is right and been hated by the American citizens and lost tens of thousands of American lives and ultimately hated by everyone in the country we tried to help. Yes it's frustrating to look at from our point of view now but personally I think the US should mind their business more often. I put the blame on the UN, the US isn't responsible for keeping peace, it's all countries responsibility.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe the US is a coward. The US has a obligation to the Us citizens and only US citizens. The UN has the obligation to the world so ultimately its not our decision what happens. It is sad what happens in these countries but the US cant put others in front of their obligation. People die its sad but it happens and you have to realize its a part of life.
ReplyDeleteI don't belive that the US was a coward at this time I belive that they played this safe and even though what I am saying sounds harsh but the truth is that the US had to play this safe. The US isn't some superpowerful nation that can send troops to control the whole world or some country that have lotss of money and so they have to be careful which battles they want to fight and it turns out they didn't want to go to Rwanda not only because its unknown but also because its very dangerous. SO i don't disagree with what US did but I don't like how they ignored the problem and pretended that they were going to do something.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what they said above but also, we have the resources and a strong military that could have put an end to this genocide at a faster pace. I don't think the US is a coward for failing to help since their only responsibility is to protect US citizens, but why go out there to "help" and then just do nothing?
