On Saturday December 3 there was a major accident on the Bay Bridge early in the morning around 5am. It consisted of a driver driving a big box car and didn't slow up when he got to the toll area. He went through the toll area splitting the car in half, killing a mother and taking out 4 cars in the process as well. The driver, Daniel Berk and the passenger of the truck had gotten thrown out of the vehicle because of so much force. The police arrested the driver, David Berk, for driving under the influence and manslaughter after the crash that killed the toll booth attendant that was taking tolls, early that morning. The driver suffered major injuries and was later taken to the hospital, as well as the passenger and 5 other people that were involved in the crash that suffer minor to moderate injuries. Since this happened around 5am on Saturday the 2 lanes were closed down for hours and they said to expect delays up to 3-4 hours until the entire scene was clear. The scene was finally cleared and lanes were back to normal later that day around 4 or 5pm that night.
Now because of this incident the city of San Francisco are deciding that they are going to do the same thing that they did to the Golden Gate Bridge and change all the tolls to electronic ticket tolls that take pictures when people drive on the bridge instead of Cash Tolls to cause less accidents. Do you believe that this will cause less accidents and that they should take away Cash Tolls on the Bay Bridge like they did to the Golden Gate Bridge? Do you also think that there would be less traffic on the bridges because there are people having to wait in line to pay cash to get across the bay bridge?
I do not think that the removal of the cash tolls would cause less accidents, i mean as far as workers being killed yes, but the driver was under the influence. whether there was electric or cash tolls.I still believe there will be accidents that occur because of careless drivers. I do think it would reduce traffic on the bridge because no one has to wait, it would sort of be like fast track you don't have to stop.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand where the city of San Francisco is coming from that is a tragic accident that could of been prevented and never should have happened. Driving under the influence is very dangerous and is know to put others in harm. But when talking about electric tolls I don not beleive this is the right option as to start, it would take away so many peoples jobs. Electronics have already taken run of much of the country and its components but its important to have the small portion of human interaction that will help one grow and be able to interact. Even if its that small of a talk or a glance to look its important to take account that maybe that look or that smile could be the change in ones day. It is better to hear ones reaction or voice then hear something mechanical without no feeling or emotion
