The Ghosting of O.J. Simpson

In regards to an article on Edmodo, O.J. Simpson's life has been changed forever. According to some coaches, back in 2002, USC was in Florida practicing for the Orange Bowl game. OJ decided to stop by and watch his alma mater practice. Although he was one of the most celebrated athletes to come out of USC, coaches were furious that he came to draw attention away from practice and did not want their players interacting with him. Another thing that has started to get noticed is that around the NFL, announcers and broadcasters don't ever really speak about OJ. Instead, when they want to compare explosive running backs currently in the league to NFL greats, they usually refer Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, and others. Never is O.J. brought up for comparison because it seems frowned upon to bring up his name without thinking about the double murder he got away with. It seems as if O.J.'s athletic accomplishments have been washed away and disregarded because of criminal acts he has committed outside of the sport. It is kind of crazy to think about how with one wrongful action, all of your best accomplishments in life can be forgotten and wiped away. Do you guys think it is fair that O.J.'s football accolades aren't accounted for because he has committed horrible acts outside of the sport? Should he still be referred to with high regard within the sport, or does his actions take away his credibility?

  1. You cannot simplify the actions of OJ Simpson down to "one wrongful action", to do that is to diminish the death of two human beings. When you are as big as a public figure as OJ Simpson was, you have to expect that whatever you do will come back to haunt you, better people have been punished for less. Simpson is not a taboo because he didn't serve time for a double homicide, he is a taboo because he was abuser that was enabled by the people around him. He got away with abusing Nicole Brown for so long because people were willing to turn a cheek and look at his illustrious career and, in turns, let him think he could (and did) get away with murdering her.

  2. Wow! Its really sad how his life was entirely flipped upside down. OJ did love the media coverage but he has sure gotten alot of bad media coverage rather than good. But even so I do belive he is still able to make a living somehow he was a very wealthy man. But its devastating to see his career be frowned upon even with those outstanding achievement. But even though there should be the slightest sympathy that doesn't take away the point that 2 people have died and lost their lives because of what he "maybe" could of caused

  3. I think his actions do take away his credibility because he committed some pretty serious crimes. He was accused of murdering two people and participated in an armed robbery and kidnapping which are very serious crimes.
