Was Dorian Johnson a real Friend?

Dorian Johnson, was the "friend" of Michael Brown that was with Michael Brown when he had the fight with Officer Wilson. Dorian was also with Michael Brown when he stole the cigarillos. And in both occasions Dorian didn't help Michael Brown, but the truth is that when I thought about this question I thought about what I thought I would like to do and what I would actually do, and the truth is that I wouldn't do anything different. I might have paid for Michaels cigarillos if I had the money but maybe that's just me saying what I would like to do. And  I also would have run away from officer Darren Wilson when he was shooting, I like to think that Darren could have done more to help Michael with officer Wilson, but that's because I like to think that, that's the correct thing to do but I wasn't there and I don't know what I would have done so I have no place to say anything about what Darren could have done. This really interested me because in the cases we have seen this happen many times especially with the bad Samaritan case, we think that we would have saved the little girl or at least help her out, but the truth is how many of us would actually help if we were there with the same circumstances?

  1. I believe that in some cases, people like to claim that they would have acted heroically in such circumstances, but the truth is that nobody really knows until they are put into the situation. With David Cash, with his time at UC Berkeley, he argued with fellow students that it is easier to criticize his actions now, rather than act correctly when the crime was occurring. I also believe that recently, with all of the police brutality happening, and Dorian being an African-American, he feared for his own life as well, and wanted to ensure his own safety.

  2. We can't place the blame on Dorian Johnson – we are not to say that he could've done much else to save Michael Brown. I definitely agree that people always say and think that they would act heroically in such situations, but who knows what they will really do when it comes down to real life.

  3. I believe that Dorian is not as much to blame for what happened, there has been cases we studied about police brutality and discrimination against people of colored, so i think that Dorian reacted with what he thought was the right decision in the moment as far as protecting himself. Many may think they would do different, but I also agree that we can't place ourselves because you really never known what you would do until you're in that persons shoes.

  4. Personally, I think Dorian couldn't have done much in this situation. Not only was he probably paralyzed with fear because, well, guns are scary, but he also realized that he probably couldn't have done much. A person with a gun is much, MUCH more of a threat than an unarmed person, and trying to take on someone with a gun while you're unarmed is (almost) suicide. And, let's be honest here, if he tried to be a "hero" chances are he would have been dead along with Mike Brown. Dorian did nothing wrong.
