I went into this project completely siding with the cop. I heard all over the news that some big black kid robbed a store then assaulted a police officer while walking down the middle of the street and got shot. I thought “of course, what did he think would happen”. I never considered Michael Brown’s point of view before reading and hearing about what actually happened. He didn’t really “rob” a store, he stole a pack of cigarillos so he could go roll a blunt. He was already high and I am sure many high schoolers even around here do things like that. I also realized that maybe he didn’t assault the cop, no one actually knows for sure what happened when the cop backed up and almost hit them. I am not sure if they should’ve pressed charges on the officer but he should have received a punishment because no matter what happened, Michael Brown was not armed and officer Wilson should have been trained to handle the situation without unloading his entire clip into an 18 year old kid. It was wrong place and wrong time for both of them and the minimum punishment I think Wilson should have received was being relieved from duty.
