Melanie Martinez
Melanie Martinez a twenty-two indie pop singer was accused of raping her best friend December 5 of 2017. Her best friend Timothy heller simply said she didn't come out about the sexual assault sooner because Melanie was a girl. Melanie later responded on Twitter by saying “she never said no.” This really bothered me I believe that both women and men have the capability of sexually assaulting someone, and just because you don't say no doesn't mean she meant yes. Giving consent is verbally saying yes.

I read about this and was completely shock to see people in the comment area defending Melanie just because she is a girl! But yet, if it had been a guy getting accused of sexually assaulting Timothy, everyone would be attacking him.
ReplyDeleteI think it is crazy how in society we hold men responsible for more things than women, i do agree that if it was a boy who assaulted Timothy than everyone would go after him. So because it is a girl it is okay?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the two previous comments, had it been a man he would've gotten attacked and came for by everyone. My friend had told me about this and our friend group was shocked since we liked listening to her but we took the side of Timothy because we believe her and her story. It was hard to accept since Melanie had helped us when we were going through things but then we saw post of people defending her and saying things about timothy and saying that supporting Melanie is being a true fan. My response is that's not being a true fan, that's called denial and supporting a rapist
