What was DACA? (2012)
It stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It was an American immigration policy that allowed hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the US as children to remain in the US. This policy allowed them to no longer live with a fear of being deported and they were able to work and study (go to college). This policy didn't grant them any permanent legal status. It just allowed them to work legally and obtain documents like a driver's licenses that they lacked.
Present day...Trump ordered an end to it around September. Trump made a statement that millions of Americans are being victimized by "this unfair system". Attorney General Jeff Sessions backed up that statement by saying that DACA has "denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same illegal aliens to take those jobs".
I saw this video in The New York Times that showed a couple of different people talking about what DACA and how they feel about the fact that it is getting taken away. You could see the fear in their eyes and some were so devastated that they started crying. They talked about how DACA opened so many doors for them, but now that it is going to be gone they are going to be fired from their jobs and won't be able to continue studying.
Since September, there hasn't been any new news. Do you think it is fair what Trump is doing to Dreamers? Do you think Congress will actually come up with a way to not have DACA end or at least come up with a better policy?
I think what Trump is doing to the young dreamer's is completely wrong and with those "illegal aliens" who are taking the jobs of American's came to the U.S. to have a better life and for jobs being created. I personally know people who are apart of the DACA program and know people who came to the U.S. to escape violence from their hometowns or to seek for a place to raise their families. Ever since Trump was elected it has been hell for America almost coming to WWIII with North Korea and just how Trump is f*cking everything up is not how a President should run a country.
ReplyDeleteI agree what Trump has made this image of the policy is wrong and unjust as long as one is continuing there education and doing what they can to continue building a better future I feel it is okay and they deserve to have some form of sercutiy in the U.S.. Poeple shouldnt have to give up everything just because of the fear of having to go back to a poor past. People should be able to have comfort that they are able to make something important with there life. The courage it takes to leave ones home country for a better life is a lot and DACA gave many opportunities they wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. Why take that away?
ReplyDeleteI do agree with those other two comments and I do feel that the government should not take away the opportunities for these people as they could do great in the world and influence many to do good with there lives a persevere. DACA is an important program that doesnt just help poeple to study but changes there lives and put one on the right path to sucess.
