McDonalds Coffee

One of the cases we did not get to look at was the case of McDonalds coffee. In 1994 Stella Liebeck was in the passenger seat of her grandson’s car holding a McDonalds coffee when she spilled it in her lap. She got seriously burned and ended up getting permanent damages done to her. It was reported that McDonalds keeps their coffee at around 190 degrees. She ended up suing McDonalds and won over $600,000 in damages.  This case was extremely controversial because some people thought the lawsuit was excessive while others thought that it was reasonable and this became a big time national news story.
