SF Dog Mauling

Earlier in the semester, we watched the SF Dog Mauling case study. Two dogs were put down after attacking and killing Diane Whipple. One of the dogs' owner was charged with manslaughter, while the other one was charged with second-degree murder.
One thing that stood out to me, in this case, was the fact that people claimed that this wasn't the only incident in which these dogs had been involved in. In my opinion, this whole case would have been prevented if people had reported those incidents. As much as I hate the idea of a dog getting put down if someone had reported something, the police and animal control could have gone to take a look at these dogs and decided if it was okay for them to continue living there.
I think that if people report any incidents they encounter themselves in with any dog in which they feel threatened, they should report it.

  1. I agree with this because the reports of the dog would have alerted the animal control to at least go and investigate. The animal control people could intervene and inform the owners of the dogs about how dangerous they are and if they are able to be living in an apartment building.

  2. I agree with this. If people had been responsible and reported the dogs, this killing would have never happened. Also, in the trial, the owners would not be able to claim that the dogs were harmless, and never had aggressive incidents
