Claus Von Bulow: Did the justice system function properly?

1979, Claus Von Bulow was accused of attempted murder after his wife, Sunny Von Bulow, fell into a coma due to an overdose of insulin. Claus was the main suspect in the case because his stepchildren found a black bag containing insulin in his possession. Claus was originally found guilty in court, however, he was granted an appeal on this ruling based on a violation of the 4th amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. After it was determined that Claus’ 4th amendment rights were violated, the black bag containing insulin could not be used as evidence in the new trial. As a result, the prosecution did not have strong evidence against Claus, and he was ultimately found innocent. Whether or not Claus tried to kill Sunny, the justice system still functioned properly in this case for many reasons. Claus was given a fair trial, he was able to hire a very good defense team, he was able to appeal the ruling, and the court ultimately protected his 4th amendment rights. Through these steps, Claus was able to effectively prove his innocence. What are your thoughts on this case? Do you think the justice system functioned properly?
