Racist attack on Bart
A few weeks ago a video on an East Bay Bart train went Viral all over social media sites. In the video viewers were able to see a White male who decided it was okay to yell racial slurs and assault another Bart passenger riding the train because he was Asian. The victim was minding his own business while riding the train when the man came up and started to harass him, before eventually deciding to put his hands on the victim. During which the whole time the victim never once touched the man or even gave him any reason to say something to him. Many riders called the police who were able to quickly identify and eventually arrest the White male. This whole incident was no surprise to many people. We live in a society where many are being treated different because of the color of their skin and their cultural background. So it just makes me wonder when will there be a time where people are not seen for the color of their skin?. Why is it so hard for everyone to treat others like they are human and not an object?.

I believe that people will no matter what find ways to feel superior as they have throughout time, and this will include things like race, gender, religion. I do feel like as a society as a whole, we promote diversity and we will keep continuing to be progressively accepting.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that even in our area which many assume is very progressive, these incidents still happen. Maybe it is unrealistic to expect that we could ever live in a world without "us" and "them." Even if people weren't dividing by race, it is part of human nature to make in-groups and out-groups.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we live in a Country where everyone is "equal" but in reality are just being treated differently just because that individual is not White or isn't rich or has problems with family. Why do we have to be perfect to be able to have those rich friends or to have a house to live. Why can't those of other descents get along with one another why should there be people who feel like they can be superior to someone who is poor or Latino.
